The idea with this new Mystery Box was to  path of exile currency build on the success of this earlier-released Chaos & Order Mystery Box. To that end, GGG decided on "another dual themed box", this time (obviously) fire and ice hockey. The report starts with a discussion about designing a dual-themed armor set being a challenge that went through many iterations before the final layout was discovered.

After much debate, an idea emerged to make it so that you could combine ice and fire microtransactions to the carve microtransactions. That served the dual-purpose of being equally thematically-appropriate and also an intriguing and surprising way to soak up copies from the box.

We're enthused about the idea and thought it's best to keep it a  cheap poe currency poe trade secret at the first launch of the box. We felt the box represented excellent value even without mentioning the separation microtransactions and that trying to convey it might confuse the statement. We were pleased to leave it as a nice surprise for players who'd discover that there was additional value beyond that which they initially open from the boxes.
